This year, the Ladies’ College PE Department decided to reinstate a tradition of playing matches involving previous students against current senior teams. The aim of these matches was two fold. Firstly, to give the school teams some fresh competition in the lead up to the annual Cup Matches (against The Grammar School and Jersey College for Girls) and secondly, to give former students the opportunity to become actively involved the current school set up.
So far, netball and hockey matches have both been played. Rounders has been planned for the summer – Thursday 19th June 2008.
The hockey match was followed but a supper hosted by the Guild, at the school, which was a great success, enjoyed by both the former and current pupils. Many “old girls” took membership forms for the Guild and several have been returned.
These matches provided both Ladies College teams with invaluable match practice and the hockey players went on to beat a strong Grammar School team, 7-1 and the Jersey College for Girls, 6-0.
The PE Department hope that these matches will become permanent fixtures in the School’s Sporting Diary.
